He is sometimes known as the “Cajun Cannon,” led the Panthers to the USFL championship in the league’s debut season. Hebert was instrumental in the Saints’ first winning season and playoff participation in franchise history eventually.

His debut season with the New Orleans Saints was in 1985. Hebert was promoted to starter quarterback, with John Fourcade serving as a backup in 1987. He completed 20 of 23 passes for 194 yards and three touchdowns in the Saints’ 42-0 blowout of the Denver Broncos on November 20, 1988.

Hebert led the Saints to strong starts and playoff appearances in 1991 and 1992. He was honored by appearing on the front cover of Sports Illustrated on October 7, 1991. Hebert was admitted into the New Orleans Saints Hall of Fame in 1999, and the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in 2000.

He owns Cajun Cannon’s, a restaurant, unlike any other sports-themed establishment. Hebert built a facility that caters to both sports fans and foodies by blending Louisiana sports culture and true Louisiana cuisine culture. The restaurant offers the ideal balance of comfort and luxury.

He was signed by the Atlanta Falcons in 1993 and made the Pro Bowl that year. Hebert was a backup to Jeff George for the Atlanta Falcons in 1994 and 1995. He returned to the starting lineup in 1996 and retired following the 1996 season with the Falcons.

Hebert was one of the best quarterbacks in the USFL’s brief career. He won the USFL title with the Michigan Panthers in 1983, defeating the Philadelphia Stars 24-22. In 1984, the team was plagued by injuries.

The Panthers amalgamated with the Oakland Invaders, and Bobby led his club to another championship game against the Stars in 1985. This time, his team fell short, losing 28-24 against the Stars.

He completed 773 of 1,407 passes for 13,137 yards in three years in the USFL.  Hebert  holds the all-time passing yards record in the USFL. He currently hosts an afternoon radio program on WWL AM 870 and WWL-FM 105.3 in New Orleans.
