This is what you need to know about Gregory S. Forbes, the American meteorologist working as The Weather Channel’s long-time severe weather expert.

Age | Birthday

Forbes was born in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, U.S on August 22, 1950. He is 69 years old as of 2019.

Forbes has managed to keep his personal life away from the public eye making it difficult to know whether he is married, engaged or dating. This information will be updated as soon as its available.

Forbes went to Pennsylvania State University where he earned a B.S. degree in meteorology. He later joined the University of Chicago where he studied tornadoes and severe thunderstorms and received his M.S. and Ph.D.

Forbes has served as a field manager for the Project NIMROD. This program was the first measurement to study damaging thunderstorm winds from downbursts and microbursts.

Later in 1978, Forbes joined the faculty in the Department of Meteorology at Penn State. While there, he taught courses in weather analysis and forecasting, natural disasters, and other topics.

He joined The Weather Channel (TWC) in 1999. As part of his research at Penn State, Forbes was a lead weather forecaster for numerous field research programs around the country. In 2007, Forbes was on the development team of the Enhanced Fujita Scale which replaced the original Fujita Scale from 1971.

Forbes announced on July 6, 2018, that he would go into semi-retirement from The Weather Channel but will be back during the spring “in limited capacity”. This decision was partly due to his “colon cancer scare” three years earlier.
