Rimer serves in the National Hockey League as the TV play-by-play announcer for the Columbus Blue Jackets. He began his career as the play-by-play man for the Calgary Centennials of the Western Hockey League in Calgary with CFAC Radio.

Then Rimer worked at CBC Television in Edmonton for more than four years as the network’s gymnastics commentator.  During the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal. He worked at CFCF Radio as the sports director and Montreal Canadiens.
