Lemann moved to Washington Monthly as an associate editor after graduating from Havard University and later upgraded to the role of managing editor. He later joined Texas Monthly after his previous contract termination and served as an associate editor at first and was later upgraded to executive editor.
Additionally, Nicholas Lemann became a national staff member at The Washington Post, and later as a national correspondent at The Atlantic Monthly. On September 1, 2003, Lemann became the dean of the Graduate School of Journalism at Columbia University and worked for two-five years terms.
