Wilson was voted as the winner of the 37th season of the show, Survivor: David vs. Goliath, in 2018. He returned for the fortieth season, Survivor: Winners at War, in 2020, to compete against former winners in the Survivor franchise.

Wilson works as a public defender. After the death of his mother, Wilson began to understand that he could use his platform as a public defender more than his own personal success. He returned to his hometown to become a public defender where his main focus is fighting the opioid epidemic.

When he got into the game, Wilson was part of the original David tribe. However, he had a bit of a rocky start, since he was since as someone who was lazy around camp and not pulling his own weight. He became a target of some of his tribemates Pat Cusack and Carl Boudreaux.

Wilson was spared from the chopping block of the first tribal council when Cusack was medically evacuated following the season’s first immunity challenge.

He would later shift his focus and become an aggressive alliance-builder, crafting one-on-one allegiances with several players in the game.

At the Final Six, he won his first immunity challenge of the season. At that time, Wilson strengthened his bonds with Keeley and White, agreeing to a Final Three deal.

He went on to win the final immunity challenge of the season, becoming the only player from the season to win multiple immunities. This also guaranteed Wilson his spot in the Final Tribal Council.

At the Final Three, Wilson selected Keeley to sit alongside him This forcing Kara Kay and White to compete for the final slot via the Fire-Making Challenge and White won.

Wilson was praised during the Final Tribal Council, for his social and strategic acumen as well as his immunity wins. He gave an impassioned speech that so well outlined his gameplay, which had seven of the ten jurors to vote for him, giving him the title of Sole Survivor.

He became the ninth winner in Survivor history to win the game while receiving no votes cast against them the entire game.
