Baumgarten started to work for the station in the year 1996 where her first job as airborne traffic and transportation reporter. Prior to joining WGN, Robin worked at WLUP Radio as a traffic and news reporter.

Baumgarten was born as the youngest daughter in the family of three kids and she is the second child of her parents and has two sisters.


Robin was previously married to Matt Piacente. Matt Piacente is a television news producer and is now the vice-president for the WVIT-TV. The two divorced citing irreconcilable differences.


Baumgarten has two daughters, her oldest daughter, Anna was born on 5th July 2002 while she welcomed her second daughter, Mary on 22nd July 2004.
