Thomas Ethelbert Skilling III has known on-air as Tom Skilling is an American television meteorologist. He has been working as a meteorologist at WGN-TV in Chicago since the 13th of August 1978. As of now, Skilling is the Chief meteorologist at WGN-TV based in Chicago.

He appears on weekdays on WGN Evening News from 5 to 7 pm, WGN News at Nine, and WGN News at Ten. In August 2018, Skilling celebrated his 40th anniversary with WGN-TV. He is under contract at WGN until 2022. Skilling has worked as a meteorologist at WGN-TV for over forty years

Skilling is rumored to be the highest-paid local broadcast meteorologist in the United States of America. He writes the daily weather report for the Chicago Tribune as well. Skilling weather broadcasts feature the latest technology in computer imagery and animation methods.

He was highlighted by his accurate prediction of the Groundhog Day blizzard. Barely two weeks before it paralyzed the Chicago area besides, in 2011.  As his late WGN-TV co-worker Bob Collins referred him, was consulted for the movie The Weather Man. Which was set in Tom’s home state of Chicago at a fictionalized version of WGN-TV “Skillful”.

Tom is under contract at WGN until 2022.

Skilling has also narrated the documentary “It Sounded Like a Freight Train. And When Lightning Strikes” for WGN-TV about the science and dangers of tornadoes and lightning furthermore.

He is a member of the National Weather Association and the American Meteorological Society in addition. Skilling hosts tornado and severe weather seminars every year. At the Fermi National Accelerator Lab (Fermilab) in Batavia, Illinois as well. 2013 marked the 32nd anniversary of the seminar and the first to feature presentations, especially on climate change.
